Staying a Step Ahead in 2018

In 2018, we remain dedicated to making safety our number one goal by staying a step ahead and preventing accidents before they happen.

MetroPower has one of the lowest Experience Modification Rates (EMR) in the markets we serve, and we had a significant decrease in total incidents in 2017. As we push forward into 2018, we remain resolute on our goal of ZERO accidents.

Here are some ways we’re proactively addressing safety this year:

Mandatory Safety Refresher Course

All employees are required to take our Safety Refresher course. The class includes FirstAid, CPR, defensive driving, updates to the MetroPower safety program and the latest OHSA and MSHA requirements. It’s an on-site, in-person class that will be offered at several locations. To see the class schedule, visit the eCompliance Home Page at www.my.ecompliance.com. To sign up, visit the Education Board on the MetroPower internal website.

Making eCompliance our Hub for Safety

eCompliance, our paperless software suite, is a valuable resource offering many benefits. We introduced eCompliance last year, and as of January 1st eCompliance was fully implemented across the company. We’re continuing to make it easier and more convenient to access everything safety-related through eCompliance, including incident report forms, inspection forms, safety documents, Safety Data Sheets, instruction guides, our Safety Handbook, class descriptions and dates, policies and procedures. Have a question about the transition to a paperless system? Tony Morris and Amy Fripp with the Safety department are always on-hand to assist.

Safety Council

The Safety Council is already hard at work, looking at creative and practical ways to prevent accidents in 2018. Safety Council members include one elected representative from each branch who serves a 2-3 year term. The Safety Council is welcoming five new employees elected to the Council, and is looking forward to hearing their invigorating new ideas that support our goal of zero accidents.

The proactive approach of our Safety department and our Safety Council are essential, but ultimately, safety is the responsibility of the individual. To achieve our goal of zero accidents, we must all continue practicing our motto: Safety: Working Together for Tomorrow.
